Thailand: Accelerating The Electrification Transformation Of Thailand’s Automotive Industry

The Thai government recently announced a series of new measures to support the development of the new energy vehicle industry from 2024 to 2027, aiming to promote the expansion of industry scale, enhance localized production and manufacturing capabilities, and accelerate the electrification transformation of Thailand's automotive industry.
According to the new policy, from 2024 to 2027, the Thai government will provide consumers who purchase new energy vehicles with car purchase subsidies of up to 100,000 baht (about 35 baht per US dollar) for each vehicle. From 2024 to 2025, the import tariff of new energy vehicles with a price not exceeding 2 million baht will be reduced by 40%; the consumption tax of imported new energy vehicles with a price not exceeding 7 million baht will be reduced from 8% to 2%. Preferential automakers are required to produce twice the number of new energy vehicles they export in Thailand in 2026, and three times the number of new energy vehicles locally in 2027.
